New Tredegar War Memorial

This War Memorial was first unveiled in November 1923 by Viscount Tredegar.
The officiating minister was Revd Richards of the English Congregational Church.
The band of The Welsh Regiment played at the ceremony.

The names are listed on three plaques affixed to
the left, rear and right sides of the main pillar.

They are not ALL alphabetically correct, suggesting that some names have been added at a later date and, as with most local War memorials, the inscriptions can be incorrect.

The list of details in this site follows the surnames as they appear on the plaques
and are not strictly alphabetically.

While carrying out research for the main part of this website, the Nelson men lost during the First World War, I discovered a number of men with distinct links to Nelson, but whose names were not on the memorial.

I have come across some similar information in relation to the New Tredegar memorial. Inside St Dingat’s Church, there is a memorial plaque, shown below, to men that had been Church members and who lost their lives in The Great War.
