Arthur was a County Court Bailiff in Tredegar before the war.
He was promoted to Company Sergeant Major in October 1914, then to Warrant Officer Class 2 in January 1915.
He was discharged - unfit for active service in August 1916.
He did military service from 1885 until 1903 as Private 1864, Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry and then re-enlisted shortly after war broke out.

On enlistment in 1918, Albert lived at 33, Union Street, Tredegar. He was already married to Emily, formerly Haywood. They were married on 24th April 1905 in Rochdale.
Their children were:

Albert Braithwaite, born 16th December 1909 in Rochdale.

By 1920, Emily had re-married a Mr Barrand and was living at 22, Fairfield Street, Cadoxton, Barry. By 1922, she was living at Bonhay Road, Exeter.

Albert Braithwaite, 14, Victoria Quadrant, Weston Super Mare, Albert’s son, on 16th April 1928 he applied to the War Office for his father’s medals.

Wyndham was living at the Cambrian Inn, Tredegar in 1911.

At the present time I am unable to confirm the military details of Corporal Budham and his details do not appear in the nominal Roll of Honour for any battalion of the South Wales Borderers. It is quite possible that this relates to Alfred Badham, above.

 

BULL, Charles B - Initial research revealed nothing about this person. I now believe that this is one and the same person as Charles Bryan Ball and that the family name has been incorrectly transcribed from a memorial in St George’s Church, Tredegar.

Albert was unmarried and lived at the back of the Bush (Bush Inn) Tredegar in 1901. He had previously served with the 3rd Battalion, Monmouthshire Regiment.
In 1911 George and Albert are lodging with their sister Celia, (now) Jones, at 24 Vale Terrace Tredegar.
Albert was a coal miner - hewer.
Albert’s sister Annie, married a Mr Edwards and was living at Twyn Glas Farm, Tredegar.
His brother Joseph, lived at the bungalow in Tredegar Recreational Ground.
